MARTA General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Keith T. Parker has been appointed to President Barack Obama’s National Infrastructure Advisory Council.

MARTA announced the appointment late Monday. In addition to Parker, a member of the private sector was appointed to the NIAC, and six other individuals were appointed to various administration advisory posts, the transit agency said.

The NIAC provides the president - through the Secretary of Homeland Security - with advice on the security of critical infrastructure and information systems. The council includes a maximum of 30 members who are appointed by the president from private industry, academia, and state and local government.

“I am honored that these talented individuals have decided to serve our country," President Obama said in a prepared statement. "They bring their years of experience and expertise to this Administration, and I look forward to working with them.”

Parker said he looks forward to working with members of the council and the Secretary of Homeland Security.

“I am deeply humbled to have been asked to serve our country in this capacity,” Parker said.
